Weekend Round - again

Another weekend spent doing round in the ward. This one was a little unexpected as the wife of the MO who was supposed to do the round today went into labour yesterday. So, I had to make the slow (and unwilling) drive back to KL this morning to do the round. There are other more senior specialists in KL but they have...'quote' "decided not to do anymore weekend round" 'unquote'. Sigh....

I wonder when will I get to make that kind of decision.

I think since becoming a physician, even more of my weekends were sacrificed on the altar of work. I have more calls now compared to when I was a MO. I have more rounds to do on weekends than when I was an MO. And of course, more responsiblities. My wife asked me this morning..." I thought u said things will be better, but they aren't".

How do you answer a question like that? How do I tell her that previously I was a senior MO and so can dictate the T&C of my call days, now I am a junior physician and my call days are dictated by others.

I just pray and hope that my family will be patient for another few more months. Things will definitely get better once I am done here. :-)
