A New World

While doing part time yesterday, I watched a boot-legged version of the new movie starring Colin Farrell. I had wanted to watch disc 2 of 'The Pink Panther' (also another boot-legged version, bought by my B-I-L) but it wouldn't play on my notebook. Perhaps the VCD was far too inferior to be read!

Anyway, since I had forgotten to bring my thesis work along with me (initially I had wanted to spend the entire 5 hours reading journals in between patients) and I had only 'The New World' with me; it was either spending the time playing computer games or watching it. I did both.

Played 'Zuma' till my fingers ached.... and still could not get beyond Stage 3! I totally blame it on the fact that:
1. my notebook is small (12" screen)
2. i had to use the touch pad as I did not have a mouse
3. the frog (in the game) shot out the balls too slowly
4. the rest of the balls moved too fast towards the end point which i suppose is an abyss
5. there must have been a virus in my notebook preventing me from going beyond stage 3.

And when my pre-rheumatic fingers wouldn't move anymore, I watched the movie. My verdict? I think the movie is only good for one thing....curing insomnia. It was, I think, the most boring movie I have ever watched in my entire life! It was supposed to be a life-take on the old favourite story of Pochahontas. Frankly, I prefer the cartoon version anytime.

I wonder what made Colin Farrell take up the role? I mean, the storyline was bad, the dialog was at a barest minimum and it pains me to see the thespians trying to emote. The Pochahontas in the movie looked lost at best. Half the time, I can only hear mumbles (it's a semi-narrative you see) and the music score was a pain! Ouch! Part of the story line was a little unrealistic. For instance, when pochahontas was captured by the English, they very nicely let her stay in their colony in the padre's house (who conveniently had died). I mean, hey, these fellas have been on the island like more than a year without seeing a WOMAN! It's hard to believe that they can be so 'gentlemanly'. I suppose they wanted to contrast this with the 'savagery' of the well....savages. Actually I felt the 'savages' were pretty decent folks.

Anyway, I think perhaps Mr Farrell must have been getting desperate. I mean, he hasn't exactly had a hit for a long long time. Well, this one definitely won't win him an Oscar. I used to like this guy. WhenI first saw him in 'Tigerland', I thought he had great potentials. He wasn't too bad in 'American Outlaws'. After that it kinda went down hill.

If you want to see Mr Farrell at his finest, watch 'Tigerland'. I think it's one of my favourtie movie. Back then, he was a nobody but what a movie....!
