Varicose Veins

Rounds just got over...miraculously because it's not even noon yet! My legs are killing me. The soles hurt, the calves hurt, the thighs hurt....ouch ouch ouch!

My patient, the one who stayed >90 days, suddenly passed away last night. I was just saying hi to him yesterday afternoon and now he is no more. Very sudden, very disconcerting.

Most of the patients are well. And...not so many obtrusive relatives around today, so rounds went pretty smoothly. Thank God. Sometimes I wish the relatives realise that we do need our space to do our work, to think and to plan the next step. Some just wait at the bed and before you can say 'hi' to the patient, they would have thrown some 101 questions at you. Being concerned is one thing, but being a pain is another. They probably think we are psychics....able to diagnose without examining the patient and we heal by telepathy or something.

I think I might just develop varicose veins on my legs by the end of this month when I am done with geriatrics. Thank God I had my hemorrhoids out a long time ago....

Lunch, here I come!
