SURVIVED!!!!

Yes! I survived the wolves....relatively unscathed. Thank God! I was a bag of nerves when my time came to present the proposal. And just 3 minutes before my presentation, in walked the 'feared' one.

Overall, the presentation went well (usually when you talk about sex, people pay attention and there's a lot of polite and not so polite banter and laughter). My 2 supervisors were there (God bless their souls) to make sure my behind wasn't totally torn off.

I started off by announcing I will "talk about sex....or the lack of it". That kinda set the mood. Towards the end, the 'feared' one voiced her concern about the 'not so randomised' way I recruited my patients. She said there are patients who are seen exclusively by, say, the consultant or the head, and therefore are not recruited. She was afraid there might be a 'bias' because of this. My supervisors and surprisingly the gastro consultant sprang to my rescue (God bless his soul too!)! Anyway, point noted and it was a very valid point; but there is no way I can rectify this matter. I can't possibly tell the consultants "I want all your male patients!". This will just have to be one of the "limitations" of my study when I finally submit my thesis. I could think of a few more "limitations" but thankfully no one mentioned them. Heh heh!

Anyway, thank you all for rooting for me. The reason why I am reporting this so late was because I had to attend a mortality meeting (where everyone talks, point fingers and nothing changes) and then do the afternoon rounds; and finally finding a vacant pc with internet connection! The one in my postgrad room has been hogged by someone staring at the 'google' screen for ages...perhaps trying to find inspiration??

I feel so relieved now. Sigh! Phew! Gonna go do locum (for the fares to the airport tomorrow) and then head on home. Tomorrow I am on leave. It's like a dream come through...going to Beijing with my life partner sans the kids. It's something we have looked forward to for a long long time.

See you all next week!
