A Chinese Bug
I must have caught something while I was in Beijing. It started on the 2nd day there and by the time I got home on Sunday I wasn't feeling all that great. It was massive laundry day on Monday last week. On Tuesday I was still able to drive to KL to do the ward rounds, but only just. By Tuesday afternoon, my cough got worst, the phlegm was a sickly yellow. By Wednesday I started vomiting and purging. By Thursday I was bed bound! I could hardly walk. I had to drag myself to the toilet to vomit!
My wife came to my rescue; taking time off work, drove to KL and picked me up (literally); drove me directly to my friend's clinic where I was put on on iv drip for about 4 hours. The next few days were a complete blur. I was drifting in and out of sleep and being given loads of TLC, soup and porridge and everything that goes with homely nursing.
I was even too sick to drive to KL again on Saturday to do my rounds (Zul, thanks for doing my part of the rounds.....appreciate it). I had to give the PC fair a miss. By Saturday evening, I was able to stand without wabbling. Come Easter Sunday and I was well enough to attend service.
Today I am back to work. I'd say I am about 87.5% recovered. Augmentin and Azithromycin seem to have done a good job. I still have a very chesty cough but the phlegm is now clear. My head still feels like it weighs a ton but it's not so bad. At least the headache is gone! Exertions still leave me pretty tired. I expect to make a full recovery in due time.
My doctor friend at the clinic told me that every doctor has a right to be sick once in a while. I guess my turn came. I just hope my fellow colleagues would understand that I did not ask to be sick! :-) I heard that the ward work was bearable in my absense. Thank God for that!
I don't think I will want to go back to Beijing...at least not till the 2008 Olympics anyway! Ugh! I will try and post some of the more than 600 pics I took when I am better. I have a lot of backlogged work! :-(
But...it's good to be back! And it's so good to be ALIVE! Happy Belated Easter Everyone!!!
